This 7 day expedition in Rwanda will take you to Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe Forest. Travelers will have a gorilla, chimpanzee and golden monkey tracking on this tour.

Day 1: Arrival Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Kigali.

Overnight Kigali Serena (Bed and Breakfast)

Day 2: Kigali – Nyungwe

After breakfast, check out and take about 5 ½ drive to Nyungwe Forest with lunch enroute.

Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge (Fullboard)

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking

Early breakfast, you will proceed to the chimpanzee tracking trail in either the Cyamudongo or Uwinka sections of the park which is home to two groups of 80 chimps.

After the chimp tracking stay at leisure at your lodge or choose an optional activity that you can discuss with your guide.

Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge (Fullboard)

Day 4: Lake Kivu

Breakfast at the lodge and lunch. After lunch drive to Lake Kivu. Visit the Ndaba Falls or take a walk around Kibuye town.

 Day 5: Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National park, home to mountain gorillas arriving in time for lunch at your lodge. The drive is about 4 hours.

Day 6: Gorilla tracking and Iby’iwacu cultural tour

Today you will enjoy early breakfast at the lodge. You will be transferred to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for to start your gorilla trek.

You will be briefed by trackers before you are driven to the trail to start your gorilla trekking adventure experience.  This is an exciting trek through foothills of the Virunga, offering great views in all angles. Upon locating the allocated gorilla family, you will stay with them for an hour as they go about their day to day life, playing, feeding and grooming.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, which is a Non-Profit umbrella organization that aims at improving the lives of reformed poachers and communities around Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park through provision of conservation incentives, supporting community enterprise development and livelihood based projects.

Day 7: Golden Monkey tracking- Airport Transfer

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for golden monkey tracking, which is a completely different experience from gorilla tracking but just as rewarding.

Lunch will be served at the lodge. Later drive to Kigali International Airport for your flight back home.

Note: On this day a flight after 1600Hrs is recommended if doing Golden Monkey Tracking or book an extra night in Kigali.

  • All expenses of personal nature (e.g. drinks, laundry, optional activities, souvenirs etc.)
